Introducing the state of the art in imaging technology

Implants revolutionized dental reconstruction and now evolving imaging technologies are revolutionizing implant surgery. The new technology has far reaching applications from TMJ diagnosis to diagnosing constricted airways that result in snoring to treatment planning for hard and soft tissue pathology in the maxillofacial region.

We are pleased to introduce the acquisition of the iCAT cone beam 3-D dental imaging system. The iCAT provides high-definition, in-office, three dimensional, digital imaging at reduced cost and less radiation to the patient than traditional CT scans. We can now scroll through the anatomy of the area of concern in real time with minimal distortion (it providies a 1:1 ratio).

The most obvious use of this system will be in its application to implant surgery. The scans will accurately allow us to treatment plan the placement of implants away from vital structures and in adequate bone. Furthermore, post operative scans will also provide us with accurate assessment of the surgery preformed (i.e. sinus lifts). Allowing us to verify the delivery of the highest quality of surgical treatment and raising the bar a notch higher.

The Scan also provides excellent views of the temporomandibular joint. We are quickly and easily able to monitor the condition of the underlying bone and any inadequacy in joint space. By placing an intraoral splint and retaking the scan we can determine the increase in joint space that is being provided and also observe to see if the condyles are in a more natural position.

Due to its images in three planes we are now precisely able to assess the position of lesions in jaws (i.e. impacted ectopic teeth). This will allow us to develop the best surgical approach to irradicate the pathology with minimal damage to native structures (i.e. adjacent teeth, nerves, etc.)
